Finally… A Version of Greasemonkey That Works with Firefox 3

It was a hard pill to swallow giving up Greasemonkey capabilities when I switched to the Firefox 3 Betas. I kept saying to myself, “Just wait.”

Now, thanks to Cybernet, I’ve found a new version of Greasemonkey that works! Greasemonkey 0.8 RC is available for your downloading pleasure. For those of you out of the loop, Greasemonkey is a Firefox extension that allows you to install userscripts (think of them as tiny addons) that enable you to manipulate the way webpages behave.

For those of you that are familiar, Greasemonkey has some updated features and a new monkey icon.

What about some userscripts? Here’s two of my faves -

  • Homestar All-in-One: You can never go back to watching Homestar Runner the same way after this. Homestar All-in-One is a combination of several useful scripts for viewing Homestar Runner cartoons online. Fullscreen, Previous/Next buttons, a progress seek bar, a Homestar Runner Wiki link on all pages, view subtitles from HRWiki's subtitling project, and it automatically checks for updates.
  • Right-Click Menu in Gmail: While not part of the Better Gmail extension (yet), it’s certainly handy for Gmail users. Currently, the menu lets users navigate around the site. You can jump to "inbox", "compose new", "sent messages", "contacts", etc. More advanced functionality is coming soon, including separate menus for various pages and the ability to issue commands (e.g., "Delete this message").

Download Greasemonkey 0.8 RC right now. (Image courtesy Cybernet)
